"Pleasantville" (2nd Period only)

STAR testing is on the way (more information to follow on that front). One quirk of the testing schedule is that my 2nd period class will have almost 3 unstructured hours with me when they have no test to take. To fill this gap, I will be showing this class only the movie "Pleasantville". Please don't hesitate to click on the title to read about the picture. We have just begun a unit on dystopian societies. We've already started reading Ray Bradbury's "The Veldt". Soon we with read The Giver. We will conclude the unit with the motion picture "The Village". All four demand students consider the themes of excess technology, suppressing emotions, and human imperfections. Pleasantville will provide my 2nd period group a chance to further connect with the other literature and better grasp the themes in question. It is rated PG-13 and contains serious enough content to require a permission notice. I will edit it myself during view to eliminate some questionable material. Nonetheless, please ask your student about the permission slip today and return it promptly. We will be watching the video on April 20th and 22nd. An alternate activity will be made available for students not cleared to watch or those that fail to return their permission slips.
